Amazon, Berkshire Hathaway, JPMorgan have shortlist of CEOs to run venture — but 2 don't want the job

Morgan Haefner -

Amazon, Berkshire Hathaway and JPMorgan Chase & Co. are on the hunt for the right person to helm their new healthcare venture, sources familiar with the matter told CNBC.

Here are five things to know about the search, said to be led by Todd Combs, an investment manager at Berkshire Hathaway.

1. The shortlist includes three names from different healthcare facets: former CMS Acting Administrator Andy Slavitt, former U.S. Chief Technology Officer and co-founder of Castlight Health Todd Park, and former Aetna executive Gary Loveman.

2. Two of the leaders — Mr. Slavitt and Mr. Park — aren't interested in the position. Mr. Slavitt tweeted March 8 the venture is "interesting and filled with a lot of promise, but my passion is bringing healthcare to every American and closing the gaps for vulnerable communities & families." Mr. Park told CNBC, "While I wish this new endeavor the very best, I am not a candidate to lead it."

3. Mr. Slavitt is tied up in a new venture capital fund that invests in health IT startups, while Mr. Park is working on Devoted Health, a new insurance business, the report states.

4. The sources familiar with the CEO search, who asked to remain anonymous due to the confidentiality of the initiative, told CNBC the process is equal parts information gathering and selecting a leader. As the direction of the three companies' venture remains vague, what a CEO would do to improve the healthcare industry as the venture intends is also unclear.

5. John Doerr, a Silicon Valley venture capitalist, has an informal role in the CEO search. He has called top health executives and traveled to Berkshire Hathaway's Omaha, Neb., headquarters during the search, CNBC reports.
