Alaska legislature looks to impose Medicaid work requirements: 3 things to know

Lawmakers in Alaska introduced legislation that would push the state to submit waivers to impose work requirements on Medicaid recipients, according to The Hill.

Here are three things to know about the proposals.

1. Legislators in Alaska's House and Senate submitted proposals that would require Medicaid enrollees to dedicate 20 hours per week to a job or other employment activities.

2. In Alaska, Democrats control the House and Republicans control the Senate, while the state's Independent Gov. Bill Walker supported Medicaid expansion in 2015.

3. "The department will work with lawmakers to identify the federal requirements and the impacts of implementing such a proposal," said Katie Marquette, a spokeswoman for the Alaska Department of Health and Social services, according to The Hill.
