Adventist Health Simi Valley (Calif.), formerly Simi Valley Hospital, laid off 31 employees, according to a Ventura County Star report.
Affected employees include 12 registered nurses as well as nonclinical positions, a hospital spokesperson told the publication via a statement.
"Adventist Health is in a strong financial position relative to the industry," the spokesperson said. "However, for the past year, we have seen a decrease in inpatient utilization versus planned growth. Instead, we have seen a growth in our outpatient services."
She added, "We are taking these steps to ensure that we are stronger for the long term and to help us rebuild our infrastructure to deliver on what our communities need: access to affordable, high-quality care both inside and outside hospital walls."
Hospital CEO Jennifer Swenson told the Ventura County Star there is a hiring freeze is not in place, and some affected employees will move to other departments or possibly other system locations.
The hospital is part of Roseville, Calif.-based Adventist Health and announced plans to rebrand in April.
