85% of Americans cite healthcare among top priorities for Congress, Trump in 2019

Education, healthcare policy and the economy are some of the issues the majority of Americans believe Congress and President Donald Trump should tackle in 2019, according to a Jan. 2 Gallup poll.

For the poll, researchers conducted telephone interviews with a random sample of 1,025 adults living across the U.S.

Here are the top priorities Americans said Congress and the president should examine in 2019, including the percentage of respondents who voted for each issue:

  1. Education — 87 percent
  2. Healthcare policy — 85 percent
  3. The economy — 85 percent
  4. Social Security — 80 percent
  5. Federal budget deficit — 76 percent
  6. Immigration — 75 percent
  7. Drug misuse — 75 percent
  8. U.S. infrastructure — 72 percent
  9. U.S. trade and tariff policy — 71 percent
  10. Gun policy — 66 percent
  11. Climate change — 62 percent
  12. Income and wealth distribution — 62 percent
