8 healthcare layoffs in November

The following healthcare layoffs were reported by Becker's Hospital Review in November. 

1. Michigan hospital to reduce services, cut 60 full-time positions
Sturgis (Mich.) Hospital, an 84-bed acute care facility, confirmed it will eliminate some services and lay off employees as part of a reorganization.

2. Cancer Treatment Centers of America announces layoffs, cites drop in reimbursements
Citing a decline in reimbursements, Boca Raton, Fla.-based Cancer Treatment Centers of America has laid off employees.

3. 139 contract workers face layoffs at Virginia hospitals
Wayne, Pa.-based Crothall Healthcare said it did not renew its contract with Chippenham and Johnston-Willis hospitals in Richmond, Va., which will result in 139 layoffs.

4. 50 employees laid off at Denver hospital
Centennial, Colo.-based Centura Health laid off 50 employees at Porter Adventist Hospital in Denver.

5. Kaiser Permanente Colorado will lay off 200 employees
Kaiser Permanente Colorado, the state's largest insurer, is laying off about 200 employees amid financial struggles.

6. Novo Nordisk expands layoff count to 1.3K
Denmark-based Novo Nordisk will cut 1,300 jobs by the end of 2018 as it faces mounting pressure in the U.S. market.

7. New Jersey hospital to lay off 408 employees as sale nears
To prepare for a pending sale, Memorial Hospital of Salem (N.J.) County will lay off 408 employees Dec. 31.

8. Iowa hospital to close ICU, eliminate up to 25 jobs
UnityPoint Health-Marshalltown (Iowa), a nonprofit community healthcare provider, revealed plans to eliminate jobs and close its intensive care unit amid financial problems.
