6 recent hospital, health system layoffs

The following layoffs or workforce reductions were reported by Becker's Hospital Review within the past three weeks. They are listed below by number of employees and/or positions affected.

1. Columbia-based University of Missouri Health Care plans to close its rehabilitation center in Mt. Vernon on Oct. 31, which will affect the long-term acute-care hospital's 323 employees, 265 of whom are full-time workers.

2. University Medical Center in Las Vegas laid off 285 employees, including nurses, office assistants and other support staff, in its second round of layoffs this year.

3. Warren, Ohio-based Trumbull Memorial Hospital plans to eliminate 47 licensed practical nursing positions. The LPNs are members of the Service Employees International Union, and the union is disputing the layoffs.

4. Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas told 20 employees their jobs will be eliminated Oct. 1.
 
5. The University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro recently cut 19 full-time positions in an effort to adjust staffing levels and redesign care processes.

6. Cape Cod Healthcare in Hyannis, Mass., plans to cut eight lab jobs and cut the hours of other employees at its C-Lab, which includes 14 outpatient and hospital-based lab facilities.
