The following hospitals and health systems shared plans for or implemented layoffs in the past month. They are listed by the number of positions or employees affected.
1. Workers to be laid off at St. James Mercy Hospital
Workers will be laid off at St. James Mercy Hospital in Hornell, N.Y. as part of a transition effort that is aimed at improving the hospital's financial picture.
2. 96 workers to be laid off at IU Health Morgan Hospital
Ninety-six workers will be laid off at IU Health Morgan Hospital in Martinsville, Ind. Out of the 96 workers to be laid off from IU Health Morgan Hospital in Martinsville, Ind., one third will be nurses, and the remaining workers will be a mixture of respiratory therapists, pharmacists, food workers and support staff.
3. Evans Memorial Hospital cuts 28 jobs
Evans Memorial Hospital in Claxton, Ga., cut 28 full and part-time jobs Jan. 16 in an effort to lower overhead costs.
4. 15 full-time equivalent positions to be affected by realignment at Massena Memorial Hospital
Massena (N.Y.) Memorial Hospital, a 50-bed acute-care hospital, says it will realign staff to right-size the organization. About 15 full-time equivalent positions will be affected through attrition, a reduction of hours worked and some layoffs. Positions in administration, fiscal services, support services, ancillary, outreach and nursing will be affected by the realignment.
5. Decatur County Memorial Hospital cuts 4 positions
Decatur County Memorial Hospital, a county-owned facility in Greensburg, Ind., cut four positions, froze wages and doesn't plan to fill two additional open positions.
6. 4 positions cut within Phoebe Putney Health System
Four administrative positions were cut within Albany, Ga.-based Phoebe Putney Health System amid a system-wide restructure. The eliminated positions include the public relations coordinator at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.
