6 hospitals cutting jobs

The following hospitals and health systems cut jobs or revealed plans to cut jobs in January: 

1. Holy Cross Hospital in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., will lay off 63 employees early this year and close its billing department. 

2. Pittsburgh-based UPMC will lay off 154 employees when it closes its UPMC Susquehanna Sunbury (Pa.) hospital at the end of March.

3. Cincinnati-based Bon Secours Mercy Health will close Ashland, Ky.-based Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital, affecting about 1,000 employees. 

4. Columbia, S.C.-based Prisma Health said it is laying off 327 employees to improve operating efficiencies. 

5. Lawrenceburg, Ind.-based Highpoint Health laid off 31 employees and reduced the hours of 50 other workers.

6. Astria Regional Medical Center in Yakima, Wash., closed and laid off its 463 employees.
