The following healthcare layoffs were reported by Becker's Hospital Review this year. They are listed below, beginning with the most recent.

 1. Mercy in Iowa cuts 43 jobs as part of living center consolidation
Mercy Medical Center-Clinton (Iowa) confirmed 43 job cuts as a result of the consolidation of its living centers, both in Clinton.

2. Mental Health Partners lays off about 17 employees
Mental Health Partners, a Boulder, Colo.-based addiction and mental health services provider, cut about 17 jobs, or about 3.5 percent of its nearly 500-person workforce.

3. Tennessee hospital to lay off 15% of staff
Oneida, Tenn.-based Big South Fork Medical Center plans to lay off 20 employees, or about 15 percent of the hospital's 130-person workforce.

4. IBM lays off at least 40 Watson Health employees, reports say
IBM laid off an undisclosed number of employees from its Watson Health group, with at least 40 workers cut in Cleveland.

5. Arjo to slash 54 jobs in San Antonio
Addison, Ill.-based Arjo, a medical supply provider, revealed plans to lay off 54 employees in San Antonio.

6. Ohio medical center to cut 10 positions
Salem (Ohio) Regional Medical Center revealed plans to reduce its workforce by about 26 full-time equivalent positions.

7. Penrose-St. Francis Health Services lays off 42 employees
Colorado Springs, Colo.-based Penrose-St. Francis Health Services laid off 42 employees — including a chief administrative officer.

8. HCA lays off 85 employees at recently acquired Georgia hospital
Savannah, Ga.-based Memorial University Medical Center, which was acquired by Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA Healthcare in February, laid off 85 employees.

9. Sparrow Carson Hospital to close inpatient obstetrics unit, resulting in layoffs
Carson City, Mich.-based Sparrow Carson Hospital revealed plans to shutter its inpatient obstetrics ward May 25, resulting in an unspecified number of layoffs.

10. 116-bed Missouri hospital to close next month
Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center, a 116-bed hospital in Kennett, Mo., will close June 30, resulting in the layoffs of 259 employees.

11. Texas hospital closes, allegedly owes Cigna and Aetna $43M
Webster, Texas-based Bay Area Regional Medical Center closed May 10 and laid off about 700 employees.

12. Boulder Community Health slashes staff by 1%
Boulder (Colo.) Community Health laid off about 25 employees, or 1 percent of its workforce.

13. Mississippi hospital to lay off up to 100 employees
Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center, a 165-bed hospital in McComb, revealed plans to lay off up to 100 employees from its 1,200-person workforce.

14. Massachusetts hospital lays off 29 administrative employees
Lowell (Mass.) General Hospital laid off 29 managers and nonclinical administrative employees to cut expenses.

15. 2 Wisconsin hospitals to lay off employees as part of efficiency efforts
Eau Claire, Wis.-based Sacred Heart Hospital and Chippewa Falls, Wis.-based St. Joseph's Hospital revealed plans to lay off an unspecified number of employees.

16. Mylan eliminates more than 400 positions at West Virginia plant: 3 notes
Mylan Pharmaceuticals laid off more than 400 employees at its manufacturing plant in Morgantown, W.Va. April 20.

17. Ballad Health to cut 150 positions
Ballad Health, a new health system formed by the merger of Kingsport, Tenn.-based Wellmont Health System and Johnson City, Tenn.-based Mountain States Health Alliance, revealed plans to lay off 150 employees by April 20.

18. CHS lays off more than 70 corporate employees
Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems began laying off more than 70 corporate employees April 9.

19. Montana health system lays off less than 1% of employees amid realignment
Kalispell (Mont.) Regional Healthcare laid off less than 1 percent of its workforce as it realigned to adapt to the changing healthcare environment.

20. Theranos lays off majority of workforce to avoid bankruptcy
Theranos, a healthcare technology company focused on blood testing, laid off about 80 percent of its workforce to avoid bankruptcy.

21. Express Scripts to lay off 456 employees: 3 things to know
St. Louis-based Express Scripts, the nation's largest pharmacy benefits manager, revealed plans to lay off 456 employees when it closes its pharmacy site in Columbus, Ohio.

22. Georgia hospital closure will result in 200 layoffs
Chestatee Regional Hospital in Dahlonega, Ga., revealed plans to lay off 200 employees when it closes.

23. Centura hospital to cut staff by 4% — layoffs amount to fewer than 30 workers
Longmont (Colo.) United Hospital, part of Centennial, Colo.-based Centura Health, revealed plans to lay off about 4 percent of its staff.

24. Grays Harbor Community Hospital lays off another 23 employees
Aberdeen, Wash.-based Grays Harbor Community Hospital laid off 21 unionized employees and two Harbor Medical Group employees.

25. UT Health East Texas lays off 400 workers
Tyler-based UT Health East Texas revealed plans to lay off 400 workers, or about 5 percent of the system's workforce, to improve the organization's financial picture.

26. Philips to lay off 65 Ohio employees, anticipates more layoffs later this year: 4 things to know
Cleveland-based Philips Medical Systems, part of Amsterdam-based Royal Philips, revealed plans to lay off at least 65 employees.

27. CovenantCare to close at home care facility, lay off 67 workers
Westminster, Colo.-based CovenantCare at Home revealed plans to close May 17, resulting in 67 employees losing their jobs.

28. Ascension Michigan lays off 500 hospital workers: 7 things to know
Ascension Michigan, part of St. Louis-based Ascension, laid off 500 employees, or roughly 2 percent of its 26,000-person workforce.

29. Colorado hospital slashes 272 jobs, scales back services
St. Mary-Corwin Medical Center in Pueblo, Colo., part of Centennial, Colo.-based Centura Health, revealed plans to lay off 272 employees, or about 34 percent of its 800-person workforce.

38. Palomar Health reorganization prompts 42 layoffs
Escondido, Calif.-based Palomar Health laid off 42 of its approximately 4,000 employees.

39. Texas specialty hospital to close, lay off 96 employees
Garland, Texas-based Select Specialty Hospital revealed plans to close, resulting in 96 layoffs.

40. Tenet's Detroit Medical Center to eliminate up to 300 jobs
Detroit Medical Center revealed plans to cut as many as 300 jobs as its parent company, Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare, continues its cost-cutting initiative.

47. U of Arkansas health center to cut 600 positions amid budget concerns
Little Rock-based University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences notified affected employees of its plan to cut about 600 positions to meet its budget for the upcoming fiscal year.

48. Pfizer to cut 300 jobs, end drug research for Parkinson's and Alzheimer's
Pfizer revealed plans to end research into treatments for Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease, resulting in 300 job cuts at the company's Massachusetts facilities in Andover and Cambridge, and its Connecticut facility in Groton.

49. 5 drug and alcohol counselors laid off at Chicago hospital
Illinois' Cook County laid off more than 300 employees, including five drug and alcohol counselors at Chicago-based John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital.

50. Healthgrades to lay off unspecified number of employees
Denver-based Healthgrades laid off an undisclosed number of employees.

51. Chicago safety-net hospital lays off 35 employees
Chicago-based Roseland Community Hospital laid off 35 employees, or about 7 percent of its total staff.
