5 hospitals cutting jobs

The following hospitals and health systems cut jobs or revealed plans to cut jobs on or after Feb. 18:

1. Citing state Medicaid cuts, Syracuse, N.Y.-based Nascentia Health laid off 71 of its employees.

2. Fairmont (W.Va.) Regional Medical Center is shutting down, which will result in about 600 employees losing their jobs.

3. Cornerstone Specialty Hospitals Bellaire, a specialty acute care hospital in Houston, will close this spring, resulting in 126 employees losing their jobs.

4. Jersey City, N.J.-based CarePoint Health laid off 45 corporate employees March 3 after negotiations to sell two of its hospitals stalled.

5. Providence Behavioral Health Hospital in Holyoke, Mass., plans to end inpatient psychiatric services, which will result in about 200 employees losing their jobs.
