5 healthcare organizations make Fortune's '50 Best Workplaces for Diversity'

Staff -

Fortune magazine has published its annual list of the best workplaces in America for diversity.

Fortune teamed up with Essence and People en Español to survey companies that make inclusiveness and diversity a top priority. Rankings were determined by employee feedback and representation of racial and ethnic minorities and women, according to Fortune.

Here are the five healthcare organizations that made this year's list.

  • Texas Health Resources (Arlington) — Ranked No. 2
  • Baptist Health South Florida (Coral Gables) — No. 16
  • Scripps Health (San Diego) — No. 29
  • St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (Memphis, Tenn.) — No. 41
  • Miami (Fla.) Children's Health System — No. 42

More on the methodology of the ranking: Fortune's diversity lists winners come from approximately 630 companies with published Great Place to Work reviews. Companies need to have at least 30 employees with at least 15 percent women and 15 percent racial/ethnic minorities to be considered for the list. Data about the population of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender employees was not provided by the companies, so therefore could not be included as part of the methodology.

Great Place to Work surveyed 128,000 women and nearly 70,000 minorities at 630 companies who answered 58 questions about how comfortable they were being themselves, the degree of favoritism or inside politics they observe in the workplace, the fairness of promotions, the feeling of honest connection with co-workers, their access to senior leadership, and who receives information and professional development and who doesn’t.
