4 quick notes about CMS' new chief of staff

CMS named Paul Mango its chief of staff and chief principal deputy administrator as part of its new leadership team.

Four quick notes about Mr. Mango:

1. He is a former consultant with more than three decades of healthcare experience.

2. Before joining CMS, he worked at McKinsey & Co. as a senior partner. He also served within the firm's U.S. and global healthcare practices and as head of McKinsey's U.S. Center for Health Reform.

3. Mr. Mango is a veteran of the 82nd Airborne Division and graduated from U.S. Army Ranger School; the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, where he was a Distinguished Cadet; and Harvard Business School in Boston.

4. He vied for governor of Pennsylvania but lost the three-candidate May 15 Republican primary to Scott Wagner. During his campaign, Mr. Mango showed support for work requirements for able-bodied adult Medicaid beneficiaries, according to The Inquirer.
