3 ways for employers to support women's health

Creating a flexible work environment and prioritizing the wellbeing of female employees can help support their health, the Harvard Business Review reported June 2.

Here are three ways employers can support the health and wellbeing of their female workers through policy changes, according to Michelle Moniz, MD, Ryan Howard, MD, and Michael Englesbe, MD:

  1. Employers should seek comprehensive health insurance plans for their employees that include coverage for women's health issues including childbirth and pregnancy. The plans should also have strong mental health and chronic pain management coverage too.

  2. Lack of paid leave is also a major factor that keeps women out of the workforce. Providing paid parental and sick leave will allow women to stay in the workforce and remain productive.

  3. Create a work environment that is more welcoming to women and allows them to be productive. Flexible hours and subsidized child care on site are some of the solutions
