3 strategies for employers to retain staff

Turnover is at record high levels, with many workers quitting unsatisfactory jobs in search of better treatment, pursuit of passion projects or simply just a break. Here are three techniques employers have used that helped them retain staff, as reported by The Washington Post on Nov. 4.

1. Build trust

Employers who offer flexible options like remote working and more autonomy show their staff that they trust them to manage their professional responsibilities. Micromanaging workers' time and space will only frustrate them and could lower productivity. Focusing on deliverable products of work instead of the minutes worked helps signal trust and belief in employees.

2. Recognition and appreciation

Non-monetary rewards can help employees feel appreciated and recognized in the team. Public recognition on social media, gifts and lunches are all ways to show appreciation for employees through experience and build memories.

3. Support

Protecting employees from disrespectful clients and customers and having a formal system in place when things go wrong is a great way to show support. When employees know they have support from their company, their work environment becomes safer and more comfortable, allowing them to be more productive and happier.
