10 people transforming healthcare, from 'Business Insider'

Business Insider released its list of 100 People Transforming Business. A subsection of the list featured 10 healthcare leaders.

Leaders influencing healthcare are doing so by pioneering new treatments and care for patients. Other leaders are controlling healthcare's rising costs.

Below are the 10 people transforming healthcare:

1. Rick Doblins — who is trying to turn psychedelics such as ecstasy into mainstream treatments for brain disease within the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies.

2. Jennifer Doudna — professor at UC Berkley who helped invent Crispr, a gene editing tool.

3. Rushika Fernandopulle — CEO of Boston-based Iora Health where he is coming up with new ways for patients to see physicians.

4. Ken Frazier — CEO of Merck where he is transforming pharmaceuticals and the pharmacy industry.

5. Atul Gawande, MD — CEO of Haven, the new joint venture between Amazon, Berkshire Hathaway and JPMorgan Chase.

6. Scott Gottlieb, MD — the former FDA director who helped improve the approval processes of new drugs.

7. Annie Lamont — co-founder of Oak HC/FT where she is working to lower healthcare costs and improve patient experiences.

8. Karen Lynch — president of Aetna where she forged the merger with CVS to bring members more access to care.

9. Steven Pearson — founder of the Institute for Clinical and Economics Review who is educating patients about costly drugs.

10. Anne Wojcicki — CEO of 23andMe where she is encouraging patients to learn about what their DNA means for their identity and health.
