10 healthcare layoffs in February

The following healthcare layoffs were reported by Becker's Hospital Review in February. They are listed below, beginning with the most recent.

1. Via Christi Health revises number of layoffs
Wichita, Kan.-based Via Christi Health said it is laying off employees as it transitions parts of its billing cycle to national vendor R1 RCM. Billing employees affected by the layoffs are in Wichita, Manhattan and Pittsburg, Kan.

2. Hennepin County Medical Center to cut 131 full-time jobs
Minneapolis-based Hennepin County Medical Center will cut the equivalent of 131 full-time jobs through layoffs.

3. UnitedHealth Group to lay off 119 Optum employees
Minnetonka, Minn.-based UnitedHealth Group said it will lay off 119 workers at its Optum offices in Centennial, Colo. The job cuts take effect April 16.

4. TriHealth lays off 69 employees
Cincinnati-based TriHealth is restructuring its operations. As part of the process, 69 human resources, IT, finance and corporate administration positions have been cut.

5. NYC Health + Hospitals lays off 70 employees
NYC Health + Hospitals cut 70 managerial level, nonclinical positions. The system told Becker's via email the affected positions are "redundant" and "no longer essential."

6. Zenefits to lay off 45% of its workforce
Zenefits, a health insurance and human resources startup based in San Francisco, is laying off 430 employees, or about 45 percent of its workforce.

7. Humana to lay off about 500 workers
Louisville, Ky.-based Humana will lay off about 500 workers by April 3, as it scales back its home health division's workforce.

8. Eastern Connecticut Health Network loses about 20 employees
Los Angeles-based Prospect Medical Holdings, the new for-profit owner of Manchester-based Eastern Connecticut Health Network, laid off about 20 employees at the network. Facilities affected by the layoffs include Manchester (Conn.) Memorial Hospital and Rockville General Hospital in Vernon, Conn.

9. Rackspace lays off nearly 300 amid shift to private company
Rackspace, a cloud hosting company based in San Antonio, cut 276 jobs, or about 6 percent of its U.S. workforce.

10. Schumacher Clinical Partners to lay off 125 as it consolidates operations
Lafayette, La.-based Schumacher Clinical Partners, a physician staffing, consulting and medical billing company, plans to lay off 125 employees at one of its subsidiary's offices in Fort Myers, Fla.
