10 Recent Hospital and Health System Leadership Moves

Here is a list of 10 hospital leaders who recently moved into new positions or resigned from their current roles.

1. Amir Dan Rubin, CEO of California's Stanford Hospital & Clinics
Stanford (Calif.) Hospital & Clinics has appointed Mr. Rubin as president and CEO, effective Jan. 3, 2011. Mr. Rubin currently serves as COO at UCLA Health System in Los Angeles and will succeed Martha Marsh, who retired from the position in Sept. 2010 after serving for eight years.

2. Michael Hunn, CEO of Providence Health & Services' California Region
In his new role, Mr. Hunn will oversee more than 10,000 employees at five hospitals, outpatient centers, long-term facilities, physician organizations and hospice programs. He has served as CEO of 12 hospitals over the last 19 years, most recently at Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center Torrance (Calif.).

3. Daniel Moen, CEO of Massachusetts' Sisters of Providence Health System
Mr. Moen will begin work at the health system in January. He will leave his position as president and CEO of Haywood Hospital in Gardner, Mass., a job he has held since 1990.

4. Gregory Johnson, CEO of Illinois' Iroquois Memorial Hospital
Iroquois Memorial Hospital in Watseka, Ill., has named Mr. Johnson CEO. He joins Iroquois Memorial from Cox Monett Hospital in southwest Missouri, where he also served as CEO.

5. Robert Ross, COO of New York's St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital
St. Luke's Cornwall has promoted senior vice president of operations Mr. Ross to the position of executive vice president and COO.  He has served at St. Luke's Cornwall for the past nine years.

6. Jim Muehlhauser, CEO of Missouri's Jefferson Regional Medical Center
Mr. Muehlhauser has been promoted from CFO to CEO of Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Crystal City, Mo., replacing Lloyd Ford Jr., who resigned in September. Mr. Muehlhauser has been CFO of Jefferson Regional since 1997.

7. Eric Buckland, CEO of Oregon's Mountain View Hospital
Mr. Buckland, CEO of Mountain View Hospital in Madras, Ore., has announced his resignation. He has served as head of the hospital since April 2009. He announced he will leave Mountain View to pursue other opportunities, effective Nov. 19.

8. Peter Makowski, CEO of Centura Health's St. Anthony Central Hospital
Mr. Makowski, president and CEO of Centura Health's St. Anthony Central Hospital in Denver, Colo., has resigned. Mr. Makowski's resignation comes amid a change to the organizational structure at Centura Health's Mountains North Denver Operating Group, the division that oversees four hospitals including St. Anthony Central.

9. Jim Gardner, CEO of Northeast Georgia Health System
Mr. Gardner, president and CEO of Northeast Georgia Health System, has announced that he will leave the health system. Mr. Gardner joined NGHS in March 2004 to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of longtime CEO John A. Ferguson. Mr. Gardner joined the health system with a 20-year history of executive leadership in various health systems.

10. Rob Lake, CEO of North Arkansas Regional Medical Center
Mr. Lake announced he will leave North Arkansas Regional this winter to become president of ProCure Therapy Center. ProCure's website describes proton therapy as a form of radiation cancer treatment that targets tumors more precisely.
