LewisGale Regional Health System in Virginia Breaks Ground on Cancer Center

Salem, Va.-based LewisGale Regional Health System announced the ground breaking of a new cancer and specialty services center that will be built in collaboration with Blue Ridge Cancer Care, which has locations throughout Southwest Virginia.

The 13,000-square-foot facility will house a Blue Ridge Cancer Care clinic that is currently in Christiansburg, Va. The 12,000-square-foot clinic will double the size of the current clinic and will include 20 chemotherapy infusion bays, community facilities for support groups and events and a pharmacy for on-site chemotherapy admixture, according to the release. The facility will also include research, clinical trials, a lab and benefit specialists.

In addition, the new building will house the LewisGale Blacksburg Specialty Center. The 1,000-square-foot center will offer genetic counseling, gynecologic oncology, mental health support and surgical care. The specialty center is expected to open in December 2013.
