Connecticut Children's Medical Center, Shriners Hospitals Propose Partnership

Connecticut Children's Medical Center in Hartford announced a proposed partnership with Shriners Hospitals for Children-Springfield (Mass.) for pediatric care.

Under the proposed partnership, the hospitals would collaborate to expand pediatric subspecialty services in the New England and Upstate New York regions.

Charles R. Walczak, administrator of Shriners Hospital in Springfield, said the hospital's goals of the partnership are to improve operational efficiency, increase orthopedic volume, expand subsurgical specialty services, preserve the organization's mission and strengthen its identity, according to the release.

In turn, the partnership could offer Connecticut Children's the opportunity to gain market share in surgical subspecialties and build its reputation outside Connecticut, according to the release.

Officials from Shriners Hospitals for Children have approved the hospital's plan to pursue partnership opportunities with Connecticut Children's Medical Center.
