Commission on Cancer Releases New Standards for Hospital Cancer Programs

Staff -
The Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons has released new accreditation standards for hospital cancer programs, according to an ACS news release.

The new standards focus on a patient-centered approach to cancer care, including a patient navigation process to address healthcare disparities and barriers to care, a screening process for psychosocial distress and a survivorship care plan that documents care received and aims to improve survivors' quality of life.

Accredited programs will also be required to offer patients palliative care and genetic services, either on site or by referral.
