Universal Health Services and New Orleans Fail to Reach Deal Regarding Vacant Methodist Hospital

The City of New Orleans and Universal Health Services were unable to reach a deal for the city to buy the real estate of now shuttered Methodist Hospital, which UHS currently owns, according to a report by the Times-Picayune.

UHS rejected the city's bid of $9.7 million for the property, according to the report. The hospital has been closed since Hurricane Katrina, and if the city is able to purchase the property, it plans to restore hospital service to the facility.

Although one appraisal of the hospital did come in at $9.7 million, it was the lowest of all estimates. USH President Marc Miller said in the report that the offer was rejected because it was below fair market value and that one appraisal of the facility came in at $30 million.
