Three Hospitals, Health Systems Recently Announcing Job Cuts

The following hospitals and healthcare systems recently announced layoffs and job cuts.

Faxton St. Luke's Healthcare in Utica, N.Y., eliminated 52 full- and part-time positions, including the layoffs of 24 employees and the elimination of 28 vacant positions, according to a FSLH news release. The system has 3,100 employees.

St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica, N.Y., eliminated 40 positions, including the layoffs of 24 employees and the elimination of 16 vacant positions, according to a SEMC news release. Those positions eliminated include management, clinical, non-clinical, union, and non-union staff. Decreased reimbursement to hospitals by New York State Medicaid over multiple years is one factor leading to the workforce reduction.

San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center
in Alamosa, Colo., will cut nine jobs and eliminate 15 vacant positions in an effort close a $2 million budget deficit, according to a Pueblo Chieftan report. The hospital, which has 510 employees, already implemented some wage freezes and may implement more through the end of the year.
