Tenet Under Investigation for Heart Defibrillator False Claims

Tenet Healthcare Corp. disclosed in a recent regulatory filing that one of its hospitals is under federal investigation for possible false claims made in relation to heart defibrillator implantations, according to a Reuters report.

The hospital operator disclosed that in March the Department of Justice requested documentation for heart defibrillator, or ICD, implantations going back to 2002, according to the report. The DOJ is expected to investigate whether the procedures billed to Medicare met relevant regulations.

The DOJ is currently investigating a number of hospitals' billings related to ICDs. Tenet said it anticipates more of its hospitals may receive requests for documents.

Tenet has said it will cooperate with the investigation.
