Plan to Transition Public Jackson Health to Non-Profit Won't Proceed

A plan by Miami-Dade (Fla.) County health leaders to transition struggling Jackson Health System away from public control into a non-profit overseen by a private board has stalled, according to a Miami Herald report.

A task force that explored the plan found that neither county commissioners nor the public seemed in support of the plans.

"We have heard from the community," County Commissioner Rebecca Sosa said in the report. "They... do not support privatizing. They have made that loud and clear."

Ms. Sosa said, however, that she would support other recommendations from the task force, including stricter ethical guidelines for hospital board members.
