Baystate Health to Eliminate More Than 350 Jobs

Baystate Health, based in Springfield, Mass., will lay off 169 employees and entirely eliminate 185 vacant posts due to the economy and state cost containment policies, according to a Boston Globe news report.

The health system faces a potential loss of $79 million in 2011 and 2012 "if expenses aren't curbed," according to a news release. The staff changes are expected to take effect by Aug. 19.
