White River Health System CEO to retire, ending 27-year tenure: 5 takeaways

Gary Bebow, CEO of White River Health System in Batesville, Ark., is retiring Dec. 31, after 27 years at the helm of the organization.

Here are five takeaways:

1. Mr. Bebow assumed the CEO role in January 1991.

2. During his tenure, the health system has grown to include two hospitals, Arkansas's first satellite emergency room as well as senior life centers.

3. The health system's board of directors named Gary Paxson to succeed Mr. Bebow as CEO, effective Jan. 1, 2019.

4. Mr. Paxson is the administrator of White River Medical Center in Batesville. He joined the medical center in 2012 as CIO, and in 2015, he became chief quality officer.

5. Mr. Bebow will continue to serve as an advisor to Mr. Paxson in January 2019.
