WellStar Health System announces leadership changes: 6 things to know

Marietta, Ga.-based WellStar Health System has named Candice Saunders president and CEO effective July 1 and will name WellStar CEO Reynold Jennings chief strategy officer, the system announced.

Here are six things to know about Ms. Saunders and Mr. Jennings.

1. In her new role, Ms. Saunders will be focused on building partnerships "that will emphasize WellStar’s role in all the communities WellStar serves while maintaining its [nonprofit] status," the system said. For instance, WellStar recently announced that West Georgia Health in LaGrange, Ga. is set to join the system.

2. Ms. Saunders joined WellStar as president of Marietta-based WellStar Kennestone Hospital in 2007. 

3. After serving as president of WellStar Kennestone, Ms. Saunders moved to her current role as president and COO for the WellStar system. Her leadership has been recognized statewide, most recently with her appointment as the chair of the Georgia Hospital Association this year.

4. Ms. Saunders was appointed chairwoman of the Georgia Hospital Association this year.

5. As chief strategy officer to Ms. Saunders, Mr. Jennings "will be a major force in WellStar's new strategic direction exploring and launching new opportunities that will drive future growth and stability throughout the state of Georgia," the hospital said.

6. Accomplishments Ms. Saunders and Mr. Jennings oversaw include: the opening of two health parks, a pediatric center and a new hospital in Paulding County; the launch of the Center for Health Transformation; and recognition of WellStar on Fortune's 100 Best Companies to Work For List for the past two years.
