VCU Health System CEO Marsha Rappley to retire next year

Marsha Rappley, MD, CEO of Richmond-based Virginia Commonwealth University Health System and senior vice president for health sciences at Virginia Commonwealth University, plans to retire Jan. 2, 2020.

Dr. Rappley has led the health system since 2015. During her tenure, she spearheaded the design and construction of a new inpatient children's hospital, slated to open at the end of 2022. She also "championed the modernization of the VCU Medical Center," said Michael Rao, PhD, president of VCU and VCU Health System.

She previously served as chair of the Association of American Medical Colleges' board of directors. Currently, she serves on the board of the Association of Academic Health Centers and the CEO Council of the American Hospital Association.
