UPMC Cole CEO to retire in March

Coudersport, Pa.-based UPMC Cole President and CEO Ed Pitchford plans to retire in March.

Mr. Pitchford will transition to a regional role within UPMC, effective Jan. 14. In this role, he will help ensure a smooth leadership transition at UPMC Cole as well as oversee the integration of the hospital with UPMC until his retirement.

Mr. Pitchford joined Cole Memorial, now known as UPMC Cole, in 1979 as an outside consultant. He became the hospital's CFO in 1987, and five years later left for leadership opportunities at Borgess Health in Kalamazoo, Mich. He eventually became president and CEO of UPMC Cole in 2006.

UPMC named Janie Hilfiger president of UPMC Cole. Ms. Hilfiger is currently president of UPMC Susquehanna Soldiers + Sailors in Wellsboro, Pa. She will serve as president of both hospitals beginning Jan. 14. She has 40-plus years of healthcare experience.
