United Medical Center to replace interim CEO: 4 things to know

Kelly Gooch -

Andrew L. Davis has been named interim CEO of United Medical Center in Washington, D.C., effective July 18.

Here are four things to know about Mr. Davis.

1. Mr. Davis will replace current interim CEO David Small. Mr. Small oversaw the strategic implementation of a 2013 agreement between Huron Healthcare, the District of Columbia's Department of Health Care Finance and the Council of the District of Columbia to improve United Medical Center's overall operations, financial stability and community outreach. Mr. Small will leave his current Huron assignment as he and Huron review other projects for his potential involvement.

2. Mr. Davis comes to United Medical Center after serving as president of Steward Carney Hospital in Boston. As president, he managed the operations of a 159-bed academic teaching hospital that included an internal medicine residency program and a family medicine residency program focusing on population health disparities and prevention management, according to a news release.

3. Mr. Davis described his new role as "a great opportunity."

"I believe my experience in addressing population health disparities will benefit the physicians and staff members at UnitedMedicalCenter to improve the healthcare outcomes of individuals who come to the hospital for medical services," he said in a prepared statement. "I look forward to working with UMC's management team and board of directors."

4. Prior to Steward Carney Hospital, Mr. Davis was CEO of Davis Regional Medical Center in Statesville, N.C., CEO of Sandhills Regional Medical Center in Hamlet, N.C., CFO of Crawford Memorial Hospital in Van Buren, Ark., and a senior executive at other healthcare organizations.
