South Georgia Medical CEO resigns: 4 things to know

Randy Sauls, CEO of Valdosta-based South Georgia Medical Center, has resigned from his post.

Here are four things to know about Mr. Sauls and his resignation.

1. Mr. Sauls announced his resignation Sept. 8, effective immediately.

2. In resigning, he cited personal and health reasons.

3. Mr. Sauls began his hospital administration career in 1982 at Crisp Regional Hospital in Cordele, Ga., where he served as assistant administrator. In 1995, he joined SGMC as administrator of Louis Smith Memorial Hospital and Lakeland Villa Convalescent Center, both in Lakeland, Ga. Since that time, he has served as SGMC's administrator and COO, and in 2011 was named SGMC's CEO.

4. SGMC CFO Raymond Snead Jr., DSc, will take over for Mr. Sauls and serve as interim CEO. Dr. Snead began his relationship with SGMC in 2013 when he was hired to work as a consultant to the health system to improve financial performance. He was named CFO in 2014.
