Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital president to retire in 2018: 4 things to know

South Boston, Va.-based Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital President Chris A. Lumsden will retire, effective March 31, 2018.

Here are four things to know:

1. Mr. Lumsden worked at the organization, previously known as Halifax Regional Health System, since 1985, when he joined as COO.

2. He assumed the CEO role in 1988. He helped lead Halifax Regional Health System's merger with Norfolk, Va.-based Sentara Healthcare in 2013, after which he was named president.

3. During his tenure, the hospital added many on-campus medical office buildings as well as an intensive care unit. The hospital also expanded specialty service lines, including cardiology, pulmonology and oncology.

4. He is a past chair of the Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association.
