Providence St. Joseph Health has appointed Microsoft's former cloud and artificial intelligence executive B.J. Moore as its next CIO, a position he will assume Jan. 28.

Mr. Moore spent nearly 20 years at Microsoft, most recently serving as vice president of enterprise commerce and compliance for the company's cloud and AI division.

"Healthcare is the last bastion to fully enter the digital age," said Providence St. Joseph HealthPresident and CEO Rod Hochman, MD. "With data, cloud computing and artificial intelligence poised to enable and improve the way care is delivered, health systems need leaders who are well-versed in the technology fields.

"B.J. has the depth and experience to guide our organization through this period of transformation, which will include collaborating with technology companies, as well as adopting enterprisewide solutions that will modernize healthcare operations," Dr. Hochman said.

Providence added former Amazon manager Aaron Martin as chief digital officer in 2014 and former Microsoft managing director Venkat Bhamidipati as CFO in 2017.
