Fred Kniffin, MD, president of UVM Health Network's Porter Medical Center in Middlebury, Vt., is resigning, effective in spring 2019.
Here are four things to know:
1. Dr. Kniffin became interim president of the medical center in 2016, eventually assuming the role on a permanent basis.
2. He plans to return to practicing emergency medicine as well as spend more time on other passions such as biking and hiking.
3. He took on the president role at a time when the medical center was undergoing a period of disruption. During his tenure, he focused on increasing communication both internally and externally as well as regaining the community's confidence.
4. Executive search firm Witt/Kiefer will help the organization identify a replacement.
