Northwell first health system in nation to hire Michelin Star chef

New Hyde Park, N.Y.-based Northwell Health named Michelin Star chef Bruno Tison assistant vice president for food services and the corporate executive chef.

Here are three takeaways:

1. Mr. Tison previously served as executive chef at the Plaza Hotel in New York City for 14 years.

2. He he has also run the kitchen at the Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn and Spa resort in California, where his team earned a Michelin Star for three consecutive years.

3. In his new role, Mr. Tison will oversee food quality, culinary training, menu and recipe development for the entire health system. His responsibilities will include teaching the health system's cooks to make healthier and tastier food.

"This is the first time Northwell has hired and created a position such as this because there is a real need for it," said Mr. Tison, "I'm going to re-train and re-teach the culinary departments to provide not only the patients, but employees with fresh food. We want to keep patients and employees healthy and we want our patients to look forward to a great meal."
