New CEO named for Adventist Health in Portland: 5 things to know

Roseville, Calif.-based Adventist Health has tapped David Russell as president and CEO of Adventist Medical Center and Adventist Health Medical Group in Portland, Ore., effective Aug. 15.

Here are five things to know about Mr. Russell.

1. He is currently senior vice president and COO of Adventist Medical Center.

2. Prior to being senior vice president and COO, he was vice president for marketing and business development at the medical center.

3. He also previously was director of contracting and network development for Adventist Health's Healthcare Resources Northwest.

4. In his new role, he will take over for Joyce Newmyer, who will retain her position leading Adventist Health's Pacific Northwest Region. Ms. Newmyer has been filling both roles concurrently, dividing her time between the hospital and her duties as the regional president.

5. Mr. Russell earned a master's degree in healthcare administration from Loma Linda (Calif.) University School of Public Health and a bachelor's degree in business administration from Walla Walla University in College Place, Wash.
