Mountain Health Network taps Ascension executive as 1st permanent CEO

Huntington, W.Va.-based Mountain Health Network named Michael Mullins president and CEO, effective March 4.

Mountain Health Network is the regional health system formed following Cabell Huntington Hospital's acquisition of Huntington-based St. Mary's Medical Center May 1, 2018. Mountain Health includes Cabell Huntington Hospital, St. Mary's Medical Center and Pleasant Valley Hospital in Point Pleasant, W.Va.

Most recently, Mr. Mullins served as senior vice president at St. Louis-based Ascension and CEO/ministry market executive for Wichita, Kan.-based Ascension Via Christi and Tulsa, Okla.-based St. John Health System.

He has previous experience as regional vice president of the Colorado region for Nashville, Tenn.-based Quorum Health Corp., as well as CEO of Gateway Health System in Clarksville, Tenn., and Kosciusko Community Hospital in Warsaw, Ind. He is also a retired captain of the Medical Service Corps, U.S. Naval Reserves.

Mr. Mullins is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives. He holds a master's degree in healthcare administration from Trinity University in San Antonio.

Mr. Mullins is the system's first permanent CEO. He replaces interim leader, Gary White.
