Michigan CIN names CEO: 6 things to know

The clinically integrated network established last year by six Michigan health systems has named one of its board members, William Mayer, MD, president and CEO.

Here are six things to know about Dr. Mayer.

1. He will be the first leader of the organization, which has yet to be named. The organization includes Allegiance Health in Jackson, Bronson Healthcare in Kalamazoo, Covenant HealthCare in Saginaw, Lakeland Health in St. Joseph, MidMichigan Health in Midland and Sparrow Health System in Lansing.

2. Most recently, Dr. Mayer has served as senior vice president of managed care and community health at Bronson Healthcare in Kalamazoo.

3. He has also worked in various other capacities at Bronson, including president and medical director of IBA Health Plans, vice president of medical staff clinical quality, chief quality officer and chief medical informatics officer.

4. He is currently on the faculty of Western Michigan University Homer Stryker, MD School of Medicine in Kalamazoo.

5. In his new role, Dr. Mayer will serve as an ex-officio CIN board member. Other board members are:

  • Georgia Fojtasek, RN, EdD, president and CEO of Allegiance Health
  • Ray King, MD, CMO of Allegiance Health and president and CEO of Jackson (Mich.) Health Network
  • Frank Sardone, president and CEO of Bronson Healthcare
  • Kevin Albosta, CFO of Covenant HealthCare
  • Michael Slavin, MD, medical director of Covenant HealthCare Physician Hospital Organization
  • Loren Hamel, MD, president and CEO of Lakeland Health (CIN board vice chairman)
  • Ken O'Neill, MD, vice president of clinical integration at Lakeland Health
  • Diane Postler-Slattery, PhD, president and CEO of MidMichigan Health (CIN board secretary)
  • Madhura Mansabdar, MD, chief clinical integration medical officer of MidMichigan Health
  • Dennis Swan, president and CEO of Sparrow Health System (CIN board chairman)
  • Harman Nagler, MD, vice president of clinical integration at Sparrow Health System

6. Dr. Mayer earned a bachelor's degree from Amherst (Mass.) College, a medical degree from State University of New York at Buffalo, and a master's degree in public health from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in Baltimore.
