Trinity Health selected Michael Englehart to serve as interim CEO of Mount Carmel Health System in Columbus, Ohio, effective July 25.

Mr. Englehart has worked at Livonia, Mich.-based Trinity Health since August 2018, when he joined as senior vice president for medical groups and ambulatory strategy. He was previously president and CEO of Presence Health in Chicago, where he oversaw the health system's merger with St. Louis-based Ascension.

He has served on the board of the Illinois Health and Hospital Association and holds a Master of Arts degree in organizational leadership from Lewis University in Romeoville, Ill., and an MBA from Lake Forest (Ill.) Graduate School of Management.

Mr. Englehart replaces Ed Lamb, who is stepping down July 25 following an investigation into a physician who has been charged in the deaths of 25 patients. A criminal investigation into William Husel, DO, concluded that he caused the deaths by ordering excessive painkiller doses for them. The health system also fired 23 employees in connection to the deaths.

"Mike is a strategic, team-oriented leader who is committed to our faith-based healing ministry, patient and colleague safety, high reliability in care delivery and culture transformation that will restore faith and trust in Mount Carmel and will take the ministry to the next level as a valued, high-quality provider that exceeds community expectations," said Michael A. Slubowski, president and CEO of Trinity Health, in a news release.
