Methodist Health System CEO to retire in April: 7 things to know

Stephen L. Mansfield, PhD, president and CEO of Dallas-based Methodist Health System, will retire, effective April 23.

Seven things to know:

1. Dr. Mansfield, who has served as leader of the health system since 2006, will step into the CEO emeritus role once he retires.

2. During his tenure, the health system grew from two acute care hospitals to 10, and it improved its bond rating significantly.

3. He has received several awards over the course of his career, including the Distinguished Business Leader Award in 2015 from the Texas Association of Business.

4. Dr. Mansfield recently served on the Large Healthcare Systems Policy Board for the American Hospital Association.

5. He holds a PhD in organizational leadership from Regent University in Virginia Beach, Va., and an MBA from the University of Tennessee-Martin.

6. James Scoggin Jr., will come out of retirement to become interim CEO of the Methodist Health System. Mr. Scoggin retired after serving as president of Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA Healthcare's North Texas Division in September 2013.

7. Pam Stoyanoff, executive vice president and COO of Methodist Health System, will become president and COO. She has worked at the health system since 2008.
