Lurie Children's names emergency medicine division head

Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago appointed Elizabeth Alpern, MD, division head of emergency medicine, the hospital announced Sept. 7.

Here are three things to know about Dr. Alpern:

1. Dr. Alpern joined Lurie Children's in 2013. She has also concurrently served as the associate division head, the director of research and a professor of pediatrics at the Chicago-based Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine since 2016.

2. She is a founding member of the Pediatric Emergency Care Applied Research Network, the first federally funded national network for research on emergency medical services for children.

3. Dr. Alpern received her medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School in Ann Arbor and completed her residency and fellowship at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. She also obtained a master's of science in clinical epidemiology and biostatistics from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.
