Bon Secours, Mercy Health name John Starcher CEO of merged entity set to form in fall

Marriottsville, Md.-based Bon Secours Health System and Cincinnati-based Mercy Health named John M. Starcher, Jr. president and CEO of Bon Secours Mercy Health when the two organizations merge in the fall.

Mr. Starcher currently serves as president and CEO of Mercy Health. He spent 13 years at Mercy Health, serving in several leadership roles during that time, including as senior vice president of human resources and assistant general counsel. Prior to that, he was president and CEO of Health Management Associates, an integrated acute care delivery system with 71 hospitals. He holds a doctorate in jurisprudence from the University of Toledo.

Rich Statuto, president and CEO of Bon Secours, will continue to serve Bon Secours Mercy Health as an advisor for the next year, with plans to retire in 2019. He led the health system for 13 years. In 2017, he was awarded the Sister Concilia Moran Award by the Catholic Health Association.

Additionally, once the merger is complete, Bon Secours Mercy Health will operate under the governance of a single board of directors, led by Chris Allen, who currently serves as chair of the Bon Secours' board of trustees. Katherine Vestal, PhD, currently chair of Mercy Health's board of trustees, will serve as vice chair.
