Pasadena, Calif.-based Huntington Hospital President and CEO Steve Ralph is retiring, ending a 22-year tenure as leader of the hospital.

After stepping down, Mr. Ralph will stay on as a senior advisor to his successor and the board of directors. He joined the hospital in 1984 to serve as vice president, and was named to his current roles in 1995, according to a Pasadena Now report.

During his time at the helm, the hospital underwent numerous changes. The hospital added a new patient tower as well as doubled the capacity in its emergency room and trauma center. The hospital has also been named among the top 10 hospitals in California by U.S. News and World Report.

"These accomplishments under Steve's leadership — alongside accreditations, designations and awards too many to list — give us the utmost confidence that Huntington Hospital is in a position of strength and poised to deliver compassionate and excellent health care to our community for decades to come," said Paul L. H. Ouyang, chairman of the board of directors, in an open letter to the community, written jointly with Mr. Ralph.

Huntington Hospital will soon begin the process of selecting a new leader. The organization hopes to have replaced Mr. Ralph by the end of the year or early 2018.
