Huntington Hospital names new CIO: 5 things to know

Pasadena, Calif.-based Huntington Hospital tapped Scott Groom as its senior vice president and CIO, effective Feb. 27.

Here are five things to know.

1. Mr. Groom will oversee Huntington's clinical and IT departments, as well as guide the hospital's vision for the development and management of information resources and technology in support of its strategic goals.

2. Since 2011, he has served as network vice president for Cooperstown, N.Y.-based Bassett Healthcare Network, an integrated delivery network and academic medical center.

3. Prior to his role at Bassett, he served as corporate vice president and CIO for Cabell Hospital in Huntington, W.Va., and Baptist Health System in Jackson, Miss.

4. Mr. Groom is the previous chair of audit and security for the Healthcare Information Exchange of New York, Excellus Blue Cross Blue Shield Joint Venture Executive Committee, and planning for the Greater Jackson Chamber of Commerce.

5. He earned his master's degree in health services and administration from The George Washington University School of Business and received his bachelor of arts from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
