Peggy A. Sebastian, president and CEO of HSHS St. Elizabeth's Hospital in O'Fallon, Ill., resigned Feb. 19.

Here are seven things to know:

1. Ms. Sebastian left the role to "pursue new career opportunities," according to an emailed statement from Springfield, Ill.-based Hospital Sisters Health System, the hospital's parent.

2. She served as St. Elizabeth's Hospital CEO since January 2016.

3. Prior to that, she was president and CEO of HSHS St. Joseph's Hospital in Highland, Ill.

4. During her time at HSHS, she oversaw the construction of replacement facilities for both St. Joseph's and St. Elizabeth's hospitals.

5. The replacement facility for St. Elizabeth's moved the hospital from Belleville, Ill., to O'Fallon, a move some criticized, saying the organization wanted to move to a more affluent area, according to a St. Louis Post-Dispatch report.

6. Patricia L. Fischer, RN, COO of HSHS St. John's Hospital, Springfield, Ill., will take over as the interim president and CEO for St. Elizabeth's.

7. Ms. Sebastian is the second HSHS hospital CEO to depart this year. Eau Claire, Wis.-based HSHS Sacred Heart Hospital President and CEO Julie Manas abruptly departed in January.
