Geisinger executive to become CMMI senior advisor and medical officer: 4 takeaways

CMS tapped Sanjay Doddamani, MD, MBA, to serve as senior advisor and medical officer at Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation, effective March 4.

Four takeaways:

1. Dr. Doddamani is currently CMO for Danville, Pa.-based Geisinger's Keystone ACO and Geisinger at Home, a home-based care model.

2. He is a practicing heart failure cardiologist and was previously chair of the department of cardiology at Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, N.Y.

3. He has also worked at New York City-based Montefiore Medical Center and Northwell Health in New Hyde Park, N.Y.

4. At CMMI, Dr. Doddamani will work closely with the team led by Adam Boehler, deputy administrator and director of CMMI, which supports the development and testing of healthcare payment and service models.
