Geisinger CEO Dr. Glenn Steele to step down

Glenn Steele, Jr., MD, PhD, will step down from his role as president and CEO of Geisinger Health System next year.

Dr. Steele will serve in the CEO role through June 2015, after which he will continue his work as chairman of Columbia, Md.-based xG Health Solutions, according to a system news release. Dr. Steele has led Geisinger as president and CEO since March 2001.

"Leading Geisinger is one of the best opportunities I could ever imagine," Dr. Steele said in the release. "With the commitment and dedication of our employees, Geisinger has done well and is making a difference in evolving value-based healthcare across the country. I am fully committed to moving full speed ahead as we recruit and welcome a new CEO."

The health system has begun the recruitment process to find Dr. Steele's successor.
