Indianapolis-based Indiana University Health is opening a new primary care medical office in Fort Wayne, Ind., and has selected Geoffrey Randolph, MD, to lead the new IU Health physician group that will staff the office, according to a News-Sentinel report.
Here are six points:
1. Dr. Randolph formerly served as CMO of Fort Wayne-based Lutheran Health Network.
2. Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems, LHN's parent, fired Dr. Randolph in June, nearly two weeks after CHS fired the LHN CEO Brian Bauer.
3. CHS rejected a buyout offer from a group of LHN physicians in May, after which both Dr. Randolph and Mr. Bauer were ousted. Numerous executives and advisory board members stepped down since.
4. IU Health and Lutheran have "a longstanding history…on a number of initiatives" and Lutheran expects that to continue, noted Lutheran spokesman Geoff Thomas to the News-Sentinel.
5. The new primary care medical office will be staffed by up to 15 physicians and advanced practitioners.
6. The office is slated to open in the first quarter of 2018.
