Ex-CEO of CHS' Lutheran Health takes new role at competitor

The former CEO of Fort Wayne, Ind.-based Lutheran Health Network was named president of a competing health system earlier this month, according to Fort Wayne's NBC.

Brian Bauer assumed the role of president of Indiana University Health Fort Wayne on Jan. 1.

He has served as a consultant for IU Health's primary care practice in Fort Wayne since 2017 after being fired from his role as CEO of Lutheran Health Network earlier that year.

Mr. Bauer, Lutheran Health Network and its parent company, Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems, recently settled a lawsuit that was initially filed in 2017.

The lawsuit, brought by Lutheran and CHS, claimed Mr. Bauer violated the restrictive covenants of his stock option agreement by sharing confidential information. The settlement, filed in November 2018, bars Mr. Bauer from disclosing any proprietary information he obtained during his work at Lutheran Health Network. He is also prohibited from soliciting any Lutheran Health Network employees until June 2020.
