Duke Global Health Institute names Dr. Christopher Plowe director

The Duke Global Health Institute selected Christopher Plowe, MD, to serve as its director, effective January 2018.

Dr. Plowe is the founding director of the Institute for Global Health at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore. He is also the Frank M. Calia MD Professor of Medicine at the medical school. He leads a clinical translational malaria research program, and his research work focuses on genomic epidemiology, immunology, HIV-malaria interactions and clinical trials.

Dr. Plowe was a clinical and research fellow in the National Institutes of Health's Laboratory of Malaria Research and a clinical infectious diseases fellow at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. He published more than 160 papers and was awarded the American College of Physicians Award for Outstanding Work in Science as Related to Medicine.

Established in 2006, the Duke Global Health Institute is an interdisciplinary institute focused on mitigating pressing global health issues.
